Alive and Well at Grace Christian School

Twenty-one years ago this month I made a phone call that changed my life forever.  I spoke with an older lady who was the principal of a small Christian school. Mrs. Meredith hired me, and three weeks later I was teaching preschool and kindergarten here at Grace Christian School. Over the years, the grade has changed, and for a couple of years God called me to home-school my children, but the school is home to me. We plan to make the church our home as well. Those of you who know me personally, know that I love the school greatly. I think of God’s promises to the Israelites in Jeremiah 29, when he says, “I know the plans I have for you . . .”   We have great faith in the plans that God has for our school.   You have no idea how amazing it is to see so many church people getting so enthusiastically involved in this part of the ministry!!

We are gearing up for another great school year! We’ve enrolled three brand new families and are excited about the other calls that we’ve received.  Textbooks are arriving; the computer lab has internet access; ACT registration forms have arrived; people like you are taking more interest. Have you heard that this year’s seniors did an impressive job on their ACT scores last year?  It is amazing because they did so well after only having their sophomore level classes—they hadn’t even taken pre-calculus, chemistry, or physics yet!! Our class averages are above the state and national averages in math, reading, and English. I’m really looking forward to seeing what will happen when they take them in their senior year!

We are trying to reach out in a couple of ways.  As a school, we are offering classes to home-schoolers in an a la carte sort of way.  I realize that as children get into some of those upper level courses that it becomes more difficult to teach them knowledgably.  So we have a way for home-school families to take just a class or two.  The other way that we are reaching out is by organizing  opportunities for students to gather on at least one Saturday a month to minister as a group at places like the Saginaw Rescue Mission, the East Side Soup Kitchen, and Habitat for Humanity.  I am looking for people who can help hook us up with places and activities where we can make a difference.

We are Alive and Well at Grace Christian School!
